Things to do in St Ives, out of season or on a rainy day

Are you that person who pre-plans your holiday down to the final detail, or perhaps your the type that makes last minute impromptu decisions…


We thought it would be helpful to have a mini guide of what else there’s to do in St Ives when the weathers not quite what we’d like it to be, or out of season.


1 - Here’s one for adults and children alike, it doesn’t matter that it’s raining- head to Porthmeor and visit St Ives Surf School, where they can provide you with a wetsuit and learner board and teach you and any children the ropes of surfing! After all, how can you come to St Ives and not dip your feet in the sea.


2 - One just for the adults Tarquins gin school…

Enjoy a session learning about the art of gin making! You’ll even get to make your own blend and take a bottle away with you!

Classes - January to April.


3 - I should Coco! Take a chocolate making lesson with the family at I should Coco and take your delicious creation home with you. Contact Cocokitchen.co.uk for more info.



4 - A history lover?! Why not visit St Ives museum which is located in the heart of St Ives, and tells the history of the town in the old fishing community of Downlong.

Open - from April - October



5 - Visit the famous Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gardens. She how the 20th century sculptor lived and worked until her passing in 1975. She lived there for a total of 26 years creating marvellous works of art.

6 - Of course how could we not mention the Tate Gallery? Open all year round featuring modern art and the work of many local artists.

Currently Open Tuesday to Sunday.


7 - Take a walk, there’s many coastal paths leading to and from St Ives, just be warned that out of season it is advised to keep well away from the cliff edges. They’re great walks to take your canine companions on if you have one,  but please keep them on a lead (for their sake and yours) safety first!
